The Scandola Nature Reserve: Corsica's wild gem close from Galéria

UNESCO sites and natural wonders in Corsica

Located on the west coast of Corsica, between Galéria and Porto, the Scandola Nature Reserve is one of the island's most spectacular and iconic sites. Accessible only by sea, it is a preserved sanctuary where nature reigns supreme.

Created in 1975 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, Scandola protects a unique landscape formed by ancient volcanoes. Its steep, dark red cliffs plunge directly into a deep blue sea, sculpted by the wind and waves, and feature spectacular sea caves and rock formations. This striking contrast between volcanic rock and the Mediterranean offers an almost unreal setting, among the most impressive in the entire Mediterranean.

The reserve is also an exceptional refuge for biodiversity. Rare species such as the osprey, the emblem of the site, nest on the cliffs, while the waters are home to a rich and protected marine fauna. The absence of urbanization and strict regulations have allowed this ecosystem to be preserved in a remarkable state.

Discovering Scandola by sea is an unforgettable experience. Sailing at the foot of the cliffs, entering sea caves, skirting rocky peaks sculpted by centuries of erosion, and observing wildlife provides a unique sense of exploration. It is also an opportunity to admire landscapes that cannot be seen from land.

A true symbol of Corsica's raw and unspoiled nature, the Scandola Nature Reserve is much more than just a natural site: it offers a total immersion in a magnificent, wild, and protected environment that leaves every visitor with lasting memories.
