The Fango Valley: a wild river in the heart of Falasorma

River, natural pools, and UNESCO nature

Just a few minutes from the village of Galéria, the Fango Valley is home to one of Corsica's most unspoiled rivers. Classified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, this wild valley is a haven of freshness and unspoiled nature between the sea and the mountains.

The Fango River rises in the steep slopes of the Monte Cinto massif before winding its way through granite gorges, holm oak forests, and dense, fragrant scrubland. Along its course, the river has carved out countless natural pools of crystal-clear water, lined with rocks polished by time, forming swimming spots of exceptional purity.

Unlike the exposed beaches of the coastline, the valley offers a peaceful and shaded atmosphere, ideal for hot summer days. The water remains cool even in the middle of August, and the diversity of the sites allows for both family relaxation and exploration of wilder areas accessible after a few minutes' walk.

The Fango Valley is also remarkable for its biodiversity. It is home to flora and fauna typical of preserved Mediterranean ecosystems, as well as riparian forest that is rare in Corsica. The lower part of the river forms a wetland and lagoon near Galéria, a refuge for many species of birds.

Hiking, canyoning, swimming, or simply contemplating the scenery: the valley offers a complete immersion in authentic inland Corsica, far from the crowds and mass tourism. The contrast between the nearby sea and this mountainous landscape further enhances the uniqueness of the site.

A true green lung for the region, the Fango Valley is the ideal complement to maritime excursions. It allows visitors to discover another side of western Corsica: more intimate, cooler, and deeply wild.
